a Sunday in the clouds!

So last April we set out on a new adventure for our little family. We purchased a cabin at Big Cherry Lake in Big Stone Gap, Virginia. This lake resides 3,120 feet above sea level and currently offers fishing, hiking, kayaking and maybe a few more things to be added soon. I grew up at the foot of this mountain and to say this area holds a special place in my heart would be a total understatement. Riding back to the lake on Sundays after church with our entire group in the back of an old jeep was an absolute treat. At the time this was an all evening trip however today from our current home we can be to our little cabin in the pines in just 20 minutes.

I personally think that Big Cherry Reservoir boasts one of the most beautiful sights in Southwest Virginia. Being able now to go there anytime we want is such a wonderful feeling. Our boy will hopefully be rooted here in this place the same as I was growing up. Catching salamanders, fishing and playing in the mud are just of the few things we are enjoying watching him love here. We now enjoy hiking the loop trail and being with some of the most wonderful people in the world.

High Knob also boasts the beautiful trail to Devils Bathtub!

Today was one of those Sundays where after church we spent part of the afternoon with our family watching our kids play. A true southern Sunday. Afterwards we loaded up and went up on the mountain to enjoy this 70 degree day that I have been waiting on (finally.) The sunshine on your face just brings peace in these mountains. Needless to say we hunted salamanders, cleaned up from this weeks wind storm and just enjoyed our little piece of heaven of earth. My love for this piece of dirt is almost unimaginable. It has been a ton of work but it is so much more than just work for us.

From the time I walk through it’s gate until the time I close it to leave I am at peace. We are blessed with a special place to spend time with our boy and watch him grow up. Something about fresh mountain air. It is an escape from our everyday routine and it represents tranquility and peace. So let’s all breathe in that mountain air and enjoy the times well spent. The day will not be spent with regret, I assure you.

so you can also enjoy!
